Medical mission in memory
of pastor slated March 24

The Katilingban sang Naghili-usa Inc., will hold a medical dental mission in Purok Asay, Barangay Cabacungan, La Castellana, March 24, in memory of Baptist Pastor Andrew Mariano, who died recently, a press release from the group headed by John Chiong, said.

Mariano was mauled to death allegedly by a former CAFGU member after the two of them figured in a motorcycle accident.

Activities in the outreach program of the group will include free medical consultation, circumcision, acupressure, haircut, and feeding, the press release added.*

'Duaw sa Tingadlaw'

The Silay City Tourism Office has launched ‘Duaw sa Tingadlaw’, a summer tourism package for visitors and excursionists, a press release from the city said.

Activities include a cultural heritage like museum and ancestral house tour; food trip, and folklore village exploration. Groups may also request for lectures on arts, culture, history, protocol and social grace, the press release from Ver Pacete, tourism officer of Silay, said.

There are also packages for mangrove tour, Patag tour, watershed showcase and outdoor camps, in coordination with the Ikaw-Ako Japan-Negros Partnership for Environmental Protection; summer camps hosted by Carmelite Monastery, Word of Life, and Evangelical Church; as well as farm tours, the press release added.*

Lamboso, Gomes lead
UNO-R graduates

The graduation rites of the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos will be held tomorrow with Jermaine Lamboso as valedictorian of high school class 2011-2012, a press release from the school said.

She will also receive awards for excellence in mathematics and science, literary award in speech, Sen. Manny Villar, Diwa, REAP, and the UNO-R award of excellence, the press release added.

The Class salutatorian, Christine Marie Aliermo, will receive the Diwa, UNO-R and sports awards; Ma. Jackelyn Sia and Toni Marie Chavez, as first honorable and second honorable mention, respectively, will receive the UNO-R award of excellence; while Mary Joy Ematong, Irrah Micah Su-ay, Charmane Joy Carmona, Mary Rose Teaño, and Danica Jumayao, who will graduate with honors, will receive award of excellence.

Carmona will also receive the service award, with Ma. Jesilou Dato-on; Neska Centina, Iwag award and excellence in campus journalism; Val Anthony Garay, Tech Factors Inc. most outstanding IT student and St. Nicholas of Tolentino awardee; Vincent Carloe Lacson, Jose Raphael Manaloto and Jemar Xavier del Castillo, St. Nicholas of Tolentino awardees; and Dane Anthony Villanueva, the St. Cecilia Award in Music. Distinction in scouting will be given to Manaloto, Del Castillo and Villanueva, the press release said.

Angelica Louise Gomes who will lead the UNO-R Grade School graduation tomorrow will also receive the best in extra-curricular activities award, while Pamela Joy Lagansoa will graduate with second honors. Other pupils with honors are Gian Jamandron, Kee Gelladula, Andrei John Ea, Reika Alexis Lizada, Charles Gabriel Gelotin, Marielle Makilan, June Paul Parreño, and Melyka Joyce Belgira, the press release added.*

Bago residents attend Gawad
Kalinga environmental gab

The Gawad Kalinga and students of the University of St. La Salle held an environmental awareness talk among residents of Soledad Lopue in Barangay Dulao, Bago City, recently, a press release from the school said.

Parents were urged to educate their children on the advantages and disadvantages of one’s actions towards the environment. Balayan, the Community Extension Office of the university, presented a film for the kids that emphasized their roles in the community.

A feeding program for kids was also spearheaded by the USLS Interdisciplinary Studies students, the press release added.

The students also posted stickers inside public utility vehicles in barangay Banago, Bacolod City, as part of their environmental awareness campaign, the press release said.

Meanwhile, the school’s Communications Department kicked off its 40th year celebration, with the Communications Day, March 19.

The activity, with the theme, “Kick off to the 40th Year of Creating World-Class Communicators”, exhibited the outputs of communication students like TV shows and dramas, documentaries and game shows.

Ken Jaum, outgoing president of the MassComm Society, said the event aims to encourage alumni to participate in future programs and projects, the press release added.*
