OFW wrongfully
accused returns

BY LISA GAPAC

A wrongfully accused Negrense who worked as a medical assistant in a hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, finally arrived in Manila last night.

Marlon Abay, 48, of Brgy. Taloc, Bago City, was among the 28 Overseas Filipino Workers allegedly involved in stealing 1 million Saudi Arabian Riyal ($266,645.34) of medicine at the pharmacy of King Fajad Medical City Hospital.

Abay and the other accused OFWs were jailed for two weeks after the discovery of the stolen medicines, but when authorities started the investigation and checked with their Closed-Circuit Television cameras, Abay, along with three other workers, were released from jail, Anna Marie Lucasan, provincial head for public affairs, said.

Though Abay will not be able to work again at the hospital, Lucasan said, they are glad that he was freed from the crime he did not commit and is now home.

She said Marlon’s mother Erlynda, reported the incident to them and asked for their help through the Public Affairs Office of the Provincial Government.

Lucasan also said that Marlon was able to get his travel order to come back to the country through the Philippine Embassy in Saudi Arabia.

She also said Abay is expected to arrive today in Negros. *LTG
