3 Negros soldiers
cited for honesty

BY GILBERT BAYORAN
The Philippine Army yesterday marked its 115th founding anniversary without the traditional parade and review of troops, at Fort Andres Bonifacio, in Taguig City, Metro Manila, but honored three soldiers assigned in Negros island, for honesty.

Army chief Lt. Gen. Emmanuel Bautista, assisted by Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin and AFP chief Gen. Jessie Dellosa, conferred awards on Privates Danny Faigmane and Marlon de Vera, both members of the 32nd Division Reconnaissance Company in Negros Oriental, and Cpl. Fernando Samperoy, a member of the 47th Infantry Battalion.

Faigmane and de Vera returned the P90,000 in cash they had found at the landslide area in Brgy. Solonggon, La Libertad, Negros Oriental, while conducting rescue and retrieval operations last month, military records show.

Samperoy also returned the P50,000 in cash, that was placed inside a bag he found at the parking area of a Roman Catholic Church in Kabankalan City, early this month. The money was returned to Fr. Leopoldo Cahilig, Isabela town parish priest.

With their feat, though not combat related, the three will serve as “living exemplars” of soldiers who live up to the Army’s core values of honor and duty, Bautista said.

The 302nd Infantry Brigade, headed by Col. Francisco Patrimonio also received a citation in recognition of its search and rescue, as well as relief operations, after tropical storm “Sendong” and the earthquake hit Negros Oriental, recently.* GPB
