Flashflood claims
trisikad driver

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

The decomposing body of a trisikad driver was recovered yesterday in a river in Bais City, Negros Oriental, after he was carried by flashfloods Tuesday.

Police identified the fatality as Vimard Tamborete Babor, 34, single, and a resident of Calasgaan, Bais City.

Chief Insp. Reynaldo Lichido, Bais police chief, said, Babor was reportedly crossing the Tamogong River, in sitio Tambakan, Bais City, when the water level rose without warning.

Witnesses said the flashflood swept Babor downstream, Lichido added.

A police team, with Bantay Dagat members and other volunteers, conducted search-and-rescue operations but were slowed by the inclement weather, he said.

It was not until about 7 a.m. yesterday that the body was found in the river bank of the city’s barangay Poblacion, Lichido said.

The Banica River in Dumaguete also rose although no flooding was reported.*JFP
