Police seize marijuana
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

Policemen seized 115 rolled sticks, nine folded paper containing suspected marijuana leaves and 31 marijuana seedlings planted in pots in an illegal drug operation in Silay City, Negros Occidental, at about 11:30 a.m. yesterday.

The operation also led to the arrest of Johnrey Legaspi , “alias Shab-Shab”, 18, of Sito So-ol, Brgy. Rizal, Silay City police chief, Supt. Rosauro Francisco, said.

Legaspi was arrested after he handed two pieces of folded paper containing suspected marijuana leaves to a policemen, who acted as poseur-buyer, in exchange for P100.

Francisco said the operation stemmed from complaints they received from concerned citizens that Legaspi is into the illegal drug trade. In fact, Legaspi had been under close watch for three months now by the Silay policemen before his arrest yesterday, he said.

Francisco also said they are still trying to determine who is the supplier of Legaspi.

In a television interview, Legaspi claimed that the marijuana leaves and seedlings seized are his, adding that his friend a certain “JR, had asked him to watch over the items.

Francisco, however, said that, despite Legaspi’s denial, charges for violation of sections 5 and 11 of Republic Act 9165 for illegal sale and possession of illegal drugs will be filed against him.*APN
