Gov. Alfredo Marañon and former senator Juan Miguel Zubiri led the ground-breaking rites for the Kausawagan Village, a project for 68 beneficiaries at Brgy. 3, Moises Padilla town, yesterday.
Marañon said the province allotted P2.5 million for the housing project and will charge beneficiaries only six percent interest, though the National Housing Authority is still thinking of lowering that.
He also said housing loans granted to local government units through the Pag-Ibig Fund are a big help since there is a huge backlog of housing in the country today.
Zubiri, who was in Moises Padilla yesterday for the ribbon cutting of the P500,000 Moises Padiila Multi Purpose Cooperative building, which he sponsored, said, he is glad Pag-Ibig Fund, the NHA, and the provincial government are supporting the housing project.
He said Pag-Ibig, the lead agency of lending financial assistance to the people, has allowed LGUs to avail of loans for housing projects like this can be a great help to those who seek home ownership.
Mayor Francisco Nazareno said they will develop the first phase of the village which has an area of 1.66 hectares. Beneficiaries can choose lot sizes from 80 to 150 square meters, depending on their capacity to pay, he said.
Reynald Jurege, local housing coordinator of Moises Padilla said, they now have more than 70 applicants, but it is the LGU that will decide, approve, and choose the beneficiaries.
Meanwhile, Zubiri said the Eco Warrior Movement will be launched in the province in the next two months.
Eco Warrior is a movement that helps people report environmental violations and get quicker response from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, he said.
Concerned citizens can post video clips and photos of environmental violations in their communities and post them on their website at www.ecowarriors.ph and from there, they report it to the DENR, he said.*LTG
