Jobless man arrested
in anti-drugs operation

A jobless man was apprehended in a stakeout operation by members of the Bacolod City Police Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group, at about 5:45 p.m. yesterday, in Brgy. 22, Bacolod City.

CAIDSTOG head, Supt. Santiago Rapiz, identified the one arrested as Gilberto Aplasca, “alias Toto”, 56, of Purok Mapalaron, in Brgy. 22.

Rapiz said they were conducting operations in Brgy. 22, when they spotted Aplasca, who was acting suspiciously. A big plastic sachet of suspected shabu, another small plastic sachet of the banned substance, a pair of scissors and a lighter, were seized from Aplasca, he added.

Rapiz told the DAILY STAR that Aplasca was also arrested several years ago by members of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, then headed by Senior Insp. Joemarie Occeño.

Aplasca is now detained at the lock-up cell of the Bacolod City police headquarters, and charges for illegal drug and drug paraphernalia possession will be filed against him.*APN

‘Bolt cutter’ member nabbed

A suspected member of the Bolt Cutter gang operating in Bacolod City, was arrested by members of the Police Regional Office-6 Intelligence Unit, at about 4:10 p.m. Tuesday, at the city’s north-bound terminal in Brgy Bata.

Supt Lope Duron, RIU chief, identified the suspect as Allan Carumayan, 29, single, of Purok Candelaria, Brgy Sum-ag, Bacolod City.

Carumayan was apprehended by a team, led by Police Officer 3 Joshua Barile, by virtue of an arrest warrant for theft, issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 49 Judge Manuel Cardinal, who set his bail at P20,000.

Barile told the DAILY STAR that Carumayan was also arrested last November after he and his two companions, who evaded arrest, robbed a lending firm at the Bacolod downtown area.

Carumayan and his companions took a television set valued at P10,500; several mechanical tools, a wristwatch, a wall clock and two electric fans, all valued at P2,800; a computer worth P30,000; computer printer and seven sacks of rice, the police said.

He is detained at the lock-up cell of Police Station 1, and will be referred to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology*APN.

Police: 3 injured in vehicle mishaps

Three persons were injured in vehicular accidents in Bacolod City, Sunday and Monday, records of the city police Traffic Management Unit showed.

Christopher Infante, 31, of Brgy. Tabao in Valladolid town, Negros Occidental, sustained injuries and was rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, after a car sideswiped his motorcycle at San Juan Street at about 10:15 a.m. Monday.

Investigation conducted by Senior Police Officer 1 Xavier Rama showed that the Honda Civic car, driven by Carlos Berondo, was making a U-turn in front of the RMA water refilling station, when it collided with the motorcycle of Infante, which, at that time, was heading north of San Juan Street.

Rodolfo Coniso, 70, of Brgy. Mandalagan, Bacolod, was also brought to the LN Agustin Specialty Hospital when his motorcycle collided with a car at La Salle Avenue at about 10:10 a.m. Sunday.

Investigation conducted by Senior Police Officer 1 June Garong showed that the Honda Accord driven by Felix Golez III, 63, was making a U-turn when it collided with the motorcycle of Randy Tortuya, 40, of Brgy. Mandalagan, on which Coniso was a back rider.

Joemarie Lopez, 18, of Purok Bayabasan in Brgy. Bata, Bacolod, was also hurt when he was sideswiped by the motorcycle of Vergelo Abrica of Purok Tuna, also of Brgy. Bata, while he was on his mountain bike at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the barangay.

TMU records showed that as of January, seven pedestrians and two motorcycle riders have been killed in vehicular accidents.*APN
