5 ‘pushers’ arrested
in buy-bust, raid

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW & JUANCHO GALLARDE

Five suspected drug pushers were nabbed by members of the Dumaguete City Police, in a buy-bust operation and a raid on a suspected drug den, at about 10:45 p.m. Thursday, in Poblacion 2 in the city.

Police identified the suspects as Celso Cofino, 45, married, of District 3 in Poblacion Dauin; Fernando Flores, 25, single, of Purok Santan, Taclobo; Randy Reyes, 44, married, of Villa Allegre, Batinguel; Nickson Larena, 28, single, of Purok Kalubihan, Daro; and Joel Sison.

The anti-drugs operation yielded 15 small plastic sachets of suspected shabu, one matchbox of suspected dried marijuana leaves, two unsealed sachets with suspected shabu residue, seven empty transparent plastic sachets, disposable lighters, improvised tooters, tin foils, and P915 in cash, a police report said.

The raid on the house of Cofino and Sison was carried out by virtue of a search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Gerardo Paguio Jr.

Four other individuals, who claimed they were only playing cards in the house that police believe is being used in illegal drugs operation, were also arrested.

The police identified them as Arvin Toledo of Tinago, Bayawan City; Saandoni Lawi of Poblacion 8, Dumaguete; William Cadena Jr. of Ecoville Subd. Junob; and Honorio “Boy” Sayre, of Talay, Dumaguete City.

They were accused of violating provisions of Republic Act 1602 or illegal gambling, as amended.*JFP/JG
