BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The 303rd Infantry Brigade yesterday marked the 115th founding anniversary of the Philippine Army by honoring and giving recognition to its “Bayanihan awardees”, who contributed immensely to the success of their peace and development campaign in Negros Occidental.

The awarding ceremony, usually celebrated in a military camp, was held this time at the Social Hall of the Provincial Capitol in Bacolod City, with Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. and Rep. Mercedes Alvarez (6th district, Negros Occ), leading the group and individual awardees.

Marañon, who was represented by his chief of staff, Jose Maria Valencia, lauded the Philippine for its firm and unwavering commitment to ensure a stable peace and order in Negros Occidental.

The 303rd Infantry Brigade was adjudged as the best brigade of Army’s 3rd Infantry Division in Western and Central Visayas for 2011, military records show.

Other Bayanihan awardees were Senior Supt. Allan Guisihan, provincial police director of Negros Occidental, Kayang-Kayang Mission International, Incorporated, Northern Negros Aquatic Resources Management and Advisory Council and the ABS-CBN Foundation Inc. – Bantay Bata 163 Negros.

Colonel Oscar Lactao, 303rd IB commander, assisted by Lt. Col. Isabelo de los Reyes and MSgt. John Alibin, also turned over the Army command plaque for Negros Occidental, that he received during the Philippine Army anniversary in Metro Manila from Lt. Gen. Emmanuel Bautista, to Carmela Marañon-Valderrama, who represented her father.* GPB
