PPA to occupy new office

The Philippine Ports Authority- Port Management office in Bacolod City is set to transfer office from the Reclamation Area to the government acquired Banago Port in Brgy. Banago, also in Bacolod, a government press release said.

PPA Resource Division Manager Fetsy Diamante said the transfer is tentatively set by mid of May to the newly renovated P16.9 million building that will also house a passenger terminal and PMO office.

The building is a ferry terminal formerly owned by local shipping line Negros Navigation whose 50 year foreshore lease contract has ended a few years ago.

The law states that PPA takes- over its management, the press release said.

She said the development of the 640-square meter infrastructure is now 95 percent completed and once the port is fully operational, fees of clients could go down as it is now the government which will run it.

A 5,600 square meter causeway is also being repaired at a cost of P37.8 million and is now nearly half-way completed, the press release said.

A feasibility study and a master plan including siltation and analysis of the existing structure of Banago Port is underway for re-bidding at P3.8 million.

PPA Negros Occidental has a six Terminal Management Offices based in Bacolod City, Pulupandan and Hinobaan -towns in Cadiz City, Danao, Escalante City and San Carlos City, the press release said.*
