The polycarbonate transparent extension roofing of Building 1 of the Dumaguete public market is intended to fortify its front portion at Real Street, Jose Ronnie Fortin, chief of the Market Enterprise, said yesterday.
Fortin made the clarifications after some councilors questioned the design of the project that is shaped like the letter “S”, which they claim, stands for the family name of Dumaguete City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria.
He said the design does not represent anything but is only to add beauty to the building and provide ample natural lighting to the stalls, and will help owners to save on electricity consumption.
The design is only a “wave form” and is already approved by the Department of Public Works and Highways, Fortin said. The project is funded from the donation of Senator Chiz Escudero, of P50,000, through the DPWH.
Although the project is implemented by the city, he said, they will not play politics in its implementation and are just following the project plan and approved design.
The P500,000 donation specifically addresses the extension roofing based on the memorandum of agreement between the city and the DPWH.
Fortin said they are preparing the renovation of the public roofing, gutter and ceiling. The rehabilitation of the public market building is set to start this month after the purchase of materials is completed.*MA
