Seven police officers assigned in Negros Occidental, were awarded yesterday with the Medalya ng Kasanayan (PNP Efficiency Medal) for the arrest of two suspected leaders of the New People's Army on April 20 at a checkpoint in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.
The seven awardees were Senior Supt. Milko Lirazan, director of the 6 th Regional Public Safety Battalion, Supt. Harold Tuzon, San Carlos police chief, Senior Inspector John Paul Tuvera, 2 nd Maneuver Company commander of 6 th RPSB , Police Inspector James Latayon Jr., Police Officers 1 Jerry Belascuain Jr., Edilberto Flores Jr. and Lino Tedios.
They were cited for the arrest of suspected rebel leader Hernand Llorente, alias Ka Ador, and Faith Roseen Basergo, alias Ka Bea, who allegedly occupied positions in the Komiteng Rehiyonal-Negros, as commander of the Sentro de Grabidad platoon of the Northern Negros Front, and political instructress, respectively.
Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol, regional police director of Western Visayas, assisted by Senior Supt. Manuel Felix, deputy regional director for Operations, in the awarding of medals to the outstanding police officers assigned in Negros Occidental.
The arrest of Llorente and Basergo also yielded a computer hand drive and its accessories, a sketch map of northern Negros Occidental with markings, assorted food stuff, improvised hammock, voluminous subversive documents, cellular phones, and P14,000 in cash and other personal belongings.
A week after their detention, Llorente and his wife, were, however, released from jail on April 27, after posting P80,000 bail for robbery-in-band charges.
The filing of the robbery-in-band charges against Llorente and Basergo stemmed from their alleged participation with the NPA, in the raid of the raid of the fish farm of Joseph Edgar Sarrosa, a nephew of Governor Joseph Maranon, in Brgy. Bulanon, Sagay City, last year.
A similar medal was also conferred by Querol on Supt. Aaron Lirazan, chief of the PNP Legal Service in Western Visayas, during the traditional Monday flag raising ceremony at Camp Martin Delgado in Iloilo City.*GPB
