7 drug-affected brgys in
Bacolod identified

The Bacolod Police Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group has named seven barangays in the city as drug affected, based on intelligence reports it gathered.

Supt. Santiago Rapiz, CAIDSTOG head, said yesterday that they are closely monitoring barangays 2, 22, 26, 27, 35, Handumanan and Banago, for rampant illegal drugs trade.

CAIDSTOG continuously meets with the residents and officials of these barangays to emphasize the ill effects of using illegal drugs, he added.

He said they are also coordinating with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency to stop the illegal trade in these areas.

PDEA reported last year that five out of the 95 barangays in Western Visayas considered seriously affected by prohibited drugs, are in Bacolod City.

Stevedore stabbed
dead at Bredco

A stevedore was stabbed allegedly by his colleague at the city’s reclamation area, and died while being treated at a hospital in Bacolod City yesterday.

Police Officer 2 Christopher Profeta, case investigator of Police Station 2, identified the victim as Rodito Lozarito, 38, of Brgy. Dos Hermanas, Talisay City, Negros Occidental.

Lozarito sustained stab wounds in his right side and left thigh, and was rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, where he died at about 3:10 a.m. yesterday.

The suspect, identified as “alias Nato”, evaded arrest, Profeta said.

Investigation showed that Lozarito and “alias Nato” were on their way to the warehouse of the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corporation, at about 11 p.m. Monday, after having drinks at the house of Roming Cabajeles in Brgy. 8, when a heated argument ensued between them.

A witness, whose name the police withheld, said he heard the two arguing but did not pay attention to it, until he later saw the victim running and calling for help.

The witness said he went to check what had happened and saw the suspect, who told him he was going to catch a trip to Iloilo City.

A scabbard with bloodstains was recovered at the crime scene, although the bladed weapon used was nowhere to be found, Profeta said.*APN

2 cars burglarized inside
church compound

Thieves forced opened two vehicles, one owned by a lawyer, parked within a church compound at 19th Street in Bacolod City Monday, and took several items.

Joseph Eric Lapres, 49, of Goldcrest Village in Brgy. Bata, Bacolod, told the police that he parked his silver Isuzu Crosswind to attend a funeral mass, but found it open when he returned at about 6:30 p.m.

Lapares said his cellular phone valued at P1,600 and a tire wrench, were gone, the police said.

An hour later, lawyer Karen Gaston, 38, of Brgy. 1, Silay City, Negros Occidental, also reported that her Kia vehicle was broken into, and that her bag, which contained P2,000 in cash and bank cards, was gone.

Station 2 chief, Senior Insp. Robert Dejucos, said the cases are under investigation. He said he believes the suspects are living in nearby areas.*APN
