WV athletes Palaro
screening set today

Western Visayas athletes have started training at different venues in Pangasinan and will submit their papers for screening and accreditation to the Palarong Pambansa committee today at 4 p.m., Negros Occidental DepEd Provincial Sports head Romeo Sison said.

The contingent from Western Visayas, composed of athletes and officials from Negros Occidental, Iloilo, Aklan, Capiz, Guimaras, and Antique, arrived in Pangasinan on Monday and are billeted at San Carlos Central School II in San Carlos City, a 35-minute drive from Narciso Ramos Sports Center in Lingayen, main venue of the 2012 Palarong Pambansa set May 6 - 12.

Officials of the delegation made an ocular inspection of the playing venues in Dagupan, San Carlos and Lingayen yesterday and were satisfied with the condition of the areas.

Cadiz sends team to
report on Palaro

Cadiz City Mayor Patrick Escalante is sending a team of government writers from the City Mayor’s Office to San Carlos City, and Dagupan City’s and Lingayen Pangasinan, to report on the 2012 Palarong Pambansa on May 6-12, a press release from the Cadiz City Hall said.

The group includes Celina Ibañez, Jesiree Monteposo and Erwin Mabugat of the Information Management Unit of the City Mayor’s Office.

The team will report on the performance of Cadiz athletes, who are among the 232 athletes from Negros Occidental representing the Western Visayas region., the press release said.*

Bustamante wins
US 10-ball event

Billiards icon Francisco “Django” Bustamante is once again on top of the world after winning the 2012 West Coast Challenge held at the California Billiards Club in Mountain View, California, USA.

Bustamante, playing under the banner of Puyat Sports, scored six in a row to beat Raj Hundal of India, 8-4, in the finals and capture his second event title in the 10-Ball last April 29.

Sportsman/businessman Aristeo “Putch” Puyat hailed Bustamante’s victory, saying, “Once again, our flag has been raised in this foreign land.”
