Bacolod police seeking P5.4M
from city to buy 6 patrol cars

The Bacolod City Police Office is requesting for P5.4 million from the city government to buy six additional patrol vehicles, Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, BCPO director, said.

In his letter to Mayor Evelio Leonardia dated May 1, De la Paz said the patrol cars of the six police stations are already dilapidated, and they made it difficult for policemen to respond immediately to crime incidents.

He added that the six new patrol vehicles are needed to boost police visibility in Bacolod, especially since the city is set to host the 5th Asia Pacific Tchoukball Championship in August, where at least 800 participants from 19 countries are participating.

The Bacolod City government turned over to the police four patrol vehicles, worth P3.5 million, at the BCPO headquarters, that were received by Police Stations 1, 2, 4 and 6 last week.*APN

1 killed in motorcycle,
cab collision

The passenger who was injured when the motorcycle on which he was a back-rider, collided with the multi-cab driven by the son of Bacolod City Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson, at the junction of Lacson Street and Magsaysay Avenue, Saturday, died while being treated in a hospital, Sunday.

Police Officer 2 Orlando Caporal, traffic investigator, said yesterday that Ronaldo Ambrocio, 33, of Brgy. Makiling, Sagay City, Negros Occidental, succumbed to his injuries, while being treated at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.

Ambrocio was on the motorcycle, driven by Arnel Javier, 26, of Brgy. Paraiso, Sagay City, at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday, when it collided with the multi-cab of Jovito Sayson, 20, of Villarosa Street, Brgy. Sum-ag, that was heading west of Magsaysay Avenue.

Javier also sustained injuries and is now confined at the CLMMRH.

Police reports do not indicate if the motorcycle riders were wearing safety helmets at the time.

The vice mayor said there are initial talks for settlement, and he has helped finance the hospitalization of Javier, and the funeral and burial services for Ambrocio.

Meanwhile, a woman and her son were injured in what appeared to be a hit-and-run accident, at about 6 p.m. Tuesday, at Burgos Extension, Bacolod City.

Police identified the victims as Maricel Guevarra, 29, and her son Rhadz, 4, both of Glendale Subdivision in Brgy. Granada, Bacolod.

Maricel’s husband, Arniel, 30, said they were on a motorcycle heading east of Burgos Street, when they collided with another motorcycle driven by an unidentified man, who sped away after the accident.*APN

CLO volunteer stabbed

A volunteer of the Bacolod City Legal Office Enforcement Team was stabbed by his friend over a misunderstanding, at about 4:30 p.m. Monday in Brgy. 35, in the city.

Police Officer 2 Dan Oliver Salazar, case investigator, identified the victim as Luis Capalhin, of Purok Mapinalangaun in Brgy. 35.

Investigation showed that Capalhin and the suspect, Rene Boy Gawad, of Sitio Magsungay, Bacolod City, argued because Gawad did not buy cigarets for Capalhin.

Gawad, who got mad, drew his bladed weapon, stabbed Capalhin on his back, and fled; while the victim was rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, Salazar said.

Gawad surrendered to Station 1 policemen later, but the bladed weapon was not recovered.

Capalhin is still unsure whether he will pursue frustrated homicide charges against Gawad, who is detained at Police Station 1, Salazar said.*APN

‘Ugyonan Festival peaceful’

The four-day Ugyonan Festival in EB Magalona, Negros Occidental, that ended May 1, was relatively peaceful, Senior Insp. Arnold Mesias, town police officer-in-charge, said yesterday.

In his report to EB Magalona Mayor David Albert Lacson, Mesias said the joint efforts of the town police and officials, 6th Regional Public Safety Battalion and its force multipliers, such as Bantay Bayan members and barangay tanods, helped ensure peace and order during the festival.

Lacson said more than 8,000 people attended the festival opening on April 28. Crowd estimate in the last day of the Ugyonan, with a fireworks display and concert of singer-composer Kitchie Nadal, was at 10,000, he added.

Lacson acknowledged the assistance of Rep. Alfredo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District), Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr., and Board Members Patrick Lacson and Manuel Frederick Ko, in the success of the festival.* GPB
