Basecom beats Jast
in Fil-Sino cagefest

Basecom dealt Jast Enterprises its 1st loss, 93-70, while undefeated AACI Trading barely escaped Royal Star trading, 88-86, in the 2012 Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade Inc. 1st Conference Inter-Color Basketball Tournament at Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.

Organic Solutions at 2-0 remain the only undefeated team in Class B after Basecom outscored Jast in all quarters to tie their victim at 2-1.

Basecom Edward Uy delivered 24 points, 15 of them in the second quarter, while Dr. Chico Coruña sunk six triples for 22 points, Richard Tan added 17, and Luigi Coo made 14 points.

Kieron Tan topscored for Jast with 15 points, Jason Ong picked up 14, Jan Jan Young shot 13, Kevin Banzon scored 10, Chris Lim and Brian Javelosa hit 8 points each.

In Class A encounter, it was a nip and tuck battle from start to finish between AACI Trading and Royal Star.

Late in the fourth quarter, an undergoal stab from Peter Paul Ortaliz gave Royal an 84-83 lead, but Trading got back the advantage on Julius Teruel’s twinner.

Ortaliz added another layup to recapture the lead, but again, Teruel hit a point blank undergoal shot coming from a nifty pass by a double teamed Robbie Jalando-on for an 87-86 lead with 26 seconds left.

Royal Star moved the ball around and found deadshot Michael Ang open in the three-point area, but his triple missed its mark with .4 second left in the game.

Jalando-on made the first free throw and intentionally missed the second attempt as time expired.

Mark Binguan paced Trading by delivering six triples for 18 points, Julius Teruel and Robbie Jalando-on added 17 points each, Arvin Gustilo shot 13 points and suffered a hamstring injury in the second half and Daniel Chiu connected with four triples for 12 points.

Ortaliz paced the losers with 16 points, Marc Lo finished with 14, Rey Pandoro contributed 12, Michael Ang and Kenderson Hao scored 11 points each, and Brian Coo had 7 points.*with a report from Stephen Tan
