DILG to assess preparedness
of LGUs vs. flood – Robredo

The Department of Interior and Local Government has launched the Seal of Disaster Preparedness for Floods, which aims to recognize the performance and efforts of local governments in institutionalizing measures against floods, its press release said yesterday.

DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo said the Seal will be conferred on an LGU that demonstrates an acceptable level of disaster preparedness and response before and during floods, as an official symbol of excellence.

The SDP program means not only the giving of incentives to LGUs that fared well on disaster preparedness, but also assessing the performance gaps, providing policy or program intervention based on the identified gaps, and monitoring performance progress, he added in the press release.

Hiring of teachers through job orders
should be declared illegal, solon says

A lawmaker has filed a proposal to criminalize the hiring of public school teachers through service contracts or job orders, a press release from the House of Representatives said.

Rep. Antonio Tinio, of ACT Teachers Partylist, filed House Bill 6006, that proposes the dismissal from service with cancellation of eligibility and perpetual disqualification from government service of any government official found guilty of the offense. His or her retirement benefits shall likewise be forfeited, the press release added.

The proposal covers teachers employed in public schools in the kindergarten, elementary, and secondary levels, and state universities and colleges, local universities and colleges, and technical-vocational schools.

BY RENE GENOVE

The Negros Oriental Sports Confederation was organized recently to develop the sports culture and associations in the province.

The confederation was formed on recommendation of Dominador Dumalag Jr., who had been tasked by Gov. Roel Degamo, to craft a comprehensive action plan for NOSDEP.

NORSPORTS is composed of leaders of sports groups like basketball, volleyball, baseball and softball, running, swimming, karatedo and taekwondo. It aims to expand the Negros Oriental Sports Development Program, through more sports activities that will develop the skills of local athletes.
