Banzuela scores 32 as
Shakey’s advances

Rozue Banzuela delivered 32 points as Batch 2008/Shakey’s streaked past Batch 2003/2004/Martha, 77-70, to join BBC/Amazing ’09 in the semifinals of the 4th University of St. La Salle Alumni/LNA7 Sports Foundation Basketball Tournament at the West Negros University Gym.

Banzuela caught fire early in the first quarter as he scored 21 points, while Martha struggled to keep pace but still fell behind, 27-27, despite getting eight points from Mark Celestial, four points from James Ferrer and three points from Christer Isulat.

Trying to bounce back in the second canto, Martha outscored Shakey’s 18-4 as Han Shulz scored six points while Donie Aspero shot five, as they trailed 35-31 at halftime.

A balanced offense in the third quarter allowed Shakey’s to get the momentum back as they posted a 19-9 quarter run with Paolo Hayumpa dominating the shaded area with six points, while Nicos Cuenca and Banzuela tallied five and four points, respectively.

The double digit lead at the end of the third quarter allowed Shakey’s some breathing room in the payoff period as the two teams traded baskets with Shakey’s registering 27 points while Martha scored 26.

Banzuela and CJ Ramos fired seven points apiece to led Shakey’s as Cuenca poured with six points, while Celestial spearheaded Martha’s final quarter run with nine points alongside Shulz with seven and Francisco with six points.

Cuenca backed Banzuela with 11 points as Hayumpa shot 9, Ramos 7, and Eugene Jalandoni and Patrick Blance with 4 points each.

Celestial finished with 17 points for Martha, Shulz added 13, Melocoton and Francisco with 9 points each, Ferrer with 6 points and Isulat and Aspero finished the game with 5 points apiece.*NAB
