Barangay election set May 12
BY CARLA GOMEZ

The special election for barangay officials of Barangay Lipat-on, Calatrava, is set on May 12, Negros Occidental Provincial Election Supervisor Jessie Saurez sais yesterday.

In March the COMELEC served a writ of execution directing all of the barangay officials of Barangay Lipat-on to vacate their posts after a failure of election was declared in their barangay.

Ordered to vacate their positions and to cease and desist from performing their functions were barangay captain Ned Damondamon and Kagawads Amado Cajelo, Emilia Cahilo, Randyl Sotes, Alberto Orgue, Ana Maria Sario, Lamberto Daulong and Jummy Balentogo.

The COMELEC en banc declared a failure of election in Lipat-on on October 15, 2010 because the path to the polling place had been blocked and only 249 of 800 voters in the barangay were able to vote, Suarez said.

He also said no votes were cast for the Sangguniang Kabataan candidates.

The same candidates who ran for Barangay Lipat-on posts in October 2010 are running in the May 12 polls, Suarez said.

He called on the candidates to allow the election process to be conducted in a professional and civil manner.

Charges will be filed against anyone who attempts to disrupt the Barangay Lipat-on polls again, Suarez warned.

The election will not be held at the Alfonso Damondamon Elementary School as was done in 2010, but at the barangay hall located at the highway, he added.*CPG
