Fire incidents up in city
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

Fire incidents in Bacolod City in March this year increased by 205 percent compared to the same month last year, records from the city’s Fire Bureau showed.

City Deputy fire marshal Insp. Publio Ploteña said the month of March last year was rainy and maybe that was one of the reasons why there were only 17 recorded fire incidents.

He said that it is not surprising that fire incidents reached 52 this year because the season is hotter and in most cases, the cause is electrical in nature.

Ploteña said others forget to unplug their electrical appliances like electric fans causing them, to overheat while there were also incidents where fire was triggered by corroded wires and electrical overloading.

He urged the public to have their electrical wires checked, make sure that appliances are unplugged.

Records from the City Fire Bureau also showed that fire incidents from January to April this year reached 133 while there were only 115 reported incident for the same time last year, or an increase of 15.66 percent.*APN
