The 338 families affected by the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that hit Negros Oriental in February were the latest beneficiaries of the relief operations of Silliman University, its press release said.

Each family received a pack that contained noodles, coffee and rice; and another with clothing, shoes, blankets, towels, pillows, kitchenware and toys. The items were donations from friends and alumni, like the ABS-CBN, Children’s Hour Philippines Inc., Cultural Center of the Philippines, the Kalihukang Bisaya and Panday Tinig Ensemble in Quebec, Canada, the press release said.

Aside from the distribution of goods, a group of about 30 SU students and employees also gave lectures on maintaining good health and a clean environment, stress management, sanitation and food preparation, the press release also said.

The group was composed of the SU Volunteer Fire and Rescue Unit, students and teachers of the College of Nursing, Psychology Department, Nutrition and Dietetics Department, and a team from the Counseling, Advocacy, Research and Evaluation Education Services unit of the university.

The university will end its relief operations on May 11, also in Tayasan, to focus on reconstruction, the press release added.*
