Full security assured
for Palaro delegates

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan - The Philippine National Police has assured full security for all members of the athletic delegations in the Palarong Pambansa 2012 to be held in Pangasinan from May 6 to 12.

The assurance came from Police Regional Director Franklin Bucayo, who conducted final coordinating conference with all PNP personnel, along with officials of Pangasinan on May 3 at the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Conference Room.

Bucayo assured that PNP personnel will be properly and strategically deployed in all game venues as well as billeting areas to ensure that all Palaro delegates will be safe and secured throughout the whole duration of the national games.

He admitted that they had earlier requested for the imposition of a gun ban to make sure that no unlawful elements will take advantage of the situation that will compromise the status of Pangasinan as a peaceful place to visit or to live in.

The gun ban, endorsed by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of the host province of Pangasinan, already took effect starting April 27 till May 15, or for 19 days.

Bucayu said that under the gun ban duly approved by the PNP national headquarters, only policemen and other members of law enforcement agencies will be allowed to carry firearms outside of their residences but must be in proper uniform and are performing their duties.

PNP personnel will be assigned to secure the vicinity of the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC), main venue of the Palarong Pambansa. They will be tasked to man the tennis court, open court, bleacher areas, oval, gymnasium, parking area and the media center.

It is at the NRSCC where sports events like arnis, athletics, basketball, football, sepak takraw/sipa, tennis and volleyball will be played.

All other game venues will equally be secured to include the Capitol Resort Hotel (archery), CSI Stadia in Dagupan City (badminton and table tennis), PNP PPO (baseball and tennis), Lingayen Municipal Plaza (boxing), Pangasinan Training and Development Center (chess), Pangasinan State University/Virgen Milagrosa University (football, volleyball and tennis), People’s Astrodome (gymnastics), Resuello-Arenas Gym (sepak takraw/sipa), Capitol beachfront (softball), Dagupan Poolsite (swimming), Divine Word Academy of Dagupan (taekwondo), Baay Elementary School (volleyball), and Tonton Elementary School (volleyball).

Games will start tomorrow while the opening program to be graced by President Benigno S. Aquino III will be held on Monday at the NRSCC immediately after the parade of delegations at 7 a.m. *PNA
