MassKara champs return

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia joined the MassKara dancers at a motorcade yesterday afternoon in Bacolod City when the group come home with the grand champion crown in the recent It’s Showtime Inter-City Edition grand finals of ABS-CBN.

The motorcade ended at the Bacolod public plaza where a program was held.

Bacolod City was hailed as the 5th It’s Showtime grand champion, and the first in its inter-city edition. It won the P3 million cash prize, after obtaining a perfect score of 10 from all the judges.

The Bailes de Luces of La Castellana, Negros Occidental tied with Lahing Anda of Pangasinan for second in the inter-town edition with score of 9.9, while Dumaguete’s Pride of Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, was third place with a score of 9.6.

The Bacolod City government received P1 million, which Leonardia said will be spent on the programs of the city for tourism and culture.

Production manager Nidz Villones said the P2 million cash prize, less taxes, will be divided among the performers.

The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod approved a resolution Wednesday commending and congratulating the MassKara dancers of Bacolod City for winning the grand championship of the inter-town edition of ABS-CBN’s It’s Showtime Entertainment Program.

The resolution was authored by Councilor Sonya Verdeflor, chairman of the SP Committee on Tourism and Local, International Cooperation.

Eight groups representing different town and cities from all over the Philippines vied for the title of It's Showtime: The Finals Inter-town Edition Grand Champion.

Other entries were the Infinite Reform (Taytay, Rizal) with a score of 8.5 that won fourth place, Amazing Paper Dolls (Olongapo City) - 8.4 was fifth, Tiklad (San Pablo City, Laguna) - 8.0 sixth, and Next Level Octomix (Caloocan City) - 7.6 seventh place.*CGS
