faces murder raps

The killing of a Bacoleño on Thursday, which was initially reported as a vehicular accident in Sagay City, Negros Occidental, was immediately solved by the police, with the confession of the surrendered suspect, Chief Inspector Gabriel Gutierrez said yesterday.

The body of the victim, who was identified as Nilo Gregorio of Brgy. Alijis, Bacolod City, was found inside a taxi, that turned turtle at the national highway of Crossing Hacienda Esperanza in Brgy. 1 poblacion, Sagay City, at about 5:30 a.m. of May 3, police investigation showed.

Gutierrez, Sagay police chief, yesterday said Gregorio succumbed to a slash wound in the neck and a gunshot wound in the right side of his face. He was found by policemen and members of a rescue groups, who responded to the initial report of a vehicular accident in the place,

Gregorio was declared dead on arrival at the Lopez District Hospital in Sagay City.

A follow-up operation by the Sagay police led to the surrender of the suspect identified as Apolonio Colegado,39, an extra driver of the Leiboyro Taxi, where the body of Gregorio was found.

Gutierrez said the killing of Gregorio was triggered by old grudges, due to unsettled debts.

Colegado is now detained at the Sagay police jail, while murder charges are being readied against him..GPB*
