Santacruzan Fest starts
BY RENE GENOVE

The Dumaguete City Tourism Office kicked off the 2012 Santacruzan Festival with the theme “A Celebration of Virtues”, at the Kiwanis Club Stage in Quezon Park, Dumaguete City, Friday.

Tourism officer Woodrow Maquiling said his office and the City Tourism Council have prepared a series of events that will lure in tourists and visitors to be part of the celebration.

These activities will be synched with religious events of the Church, especially novena masses, that will be sponsored by city government offices. He said the festival is based on the sharing of creative ideas between the church and local government.

Maquiling is inviting residents of the city and neighboring towns in Negros Oriental to take part in the Santacruzan, that started May 5 with an inter-barangay search for singing idol; mobile passporting of the Department of Foreign Affairs at a mall in Dumaguete, May 5-6; and the opening of the National Heritage Month today.

Other activities are the inter-barangay dance competition at Quezon Park, May 12, at 7 p.m.; Santacruzan Kayak Festival-I, May 20, 8 a.m.; Heritage Month indigenous cultural show at Robinsons mall, May 25, 2 p.m., and inauguration of the Dumaguete City Port Island signage, Kasikas and Festival of Lights display at the Boulevard, at 5 p.m.; Santacruzan parade and streetdance, May 26, 3 p.m.; grand festival showdown and opening of the Philippine National Games at the Macias Sports Complex, May 26, 5 p.m., and Kapuso Night at Quezon Park, 7:30 p.m.; and the Santacruzan grand procession on May 31.*RG
