Insurance company robbed;
cops probing Yusay burglary

Robbers broke into an insurance firm at 10th Lacson Street in Bacolod City, Saturday and took office supplies valued at P130,000.

Security guard Edwin Leones, 35, of Escalante City, Negros Occidental, employed by the Dasia Security Agency and detailed at the Sunlife Insurance firm, told the police he discovered the robbery after he opened the establishment at about 6 a.m.

Leones claimed the robbers took a computer monitor, central processing unit and key board, all valued at P100,000; and a computer scanner worth P30,000.

Station 2 chief, Senior Insp. Robert Dejucos, said investigation showed that the robbers destroyed the padlock of the gate behind the building and broke the window glass at the manager’s office to gain entry.

He added the firm does not have a closed circuit television camera and no guard was on duty at nighttime. Dejucos also said there was no indication that the incident was an inside job.

He said the area where the building is located is not well-lighted and this is the third time that the insurance firm has been robbed.

Meanwhile, policemen are still investigating the robbery at the Yusay Apartment Building in B.S. Aquino Extension, Bacolod City, on Thursday, where about P120,000 worth of items were stolen.

Dr. Jaime Diane Javelosa told the police that she left her apartment on April 29, and discovered the robbery when she returned at about noon on May 3.

Investigation showed that the robbers scaled the concrete wall behind Javelosa’s apartment, destroyed the backdoor to gain entrance, and took a television set valued at P30,000.

Robbers also broke into the adjacent apartment rented by an American national, and took a television set valued at P30,000; a laptop computer worth P50,000; utensils valued at P12,000; and an I-pod and DVD player of undetermined market value. No one was at the apartment when the robbery occurred because the lessee, Michael Federman, 60, left for the United States on March 21, the police said.

Investigation conducted by Police Station 2, showed that the robbers destroyed the window screen and removed several jalousie slats to reach the doorknob.*APN

NOPPO crime lab to examine slugs recovered in Hilado Street shooting

The two slugs of the .45 caliber pistol recovered at Hilado Street, Bacolod City, after the gunfire incident near an eatery involving an unidentified SUV driver, will be sent to the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office crime laboratory for examination, Senior Insp. Robert Dejucos, Station 2 chief, said yesterday.

Dejucos said its result will help them in their ongoing investigation to identify the driver so charges for illegal discharge of firearm can be filed against him or her.

Witnesses said the driver of a grey Adventure SUV parked near the eatery and fired five times. Although no one was hurt, the incident caused alarm to the people at the area, the police said.

Dejucos also said the police failed to establish if the gunman’s target was indeed a jai alai operator, as there were no witnesses.

Station 2 policemen failed to catch up with the SUV after the shooting, and were not able to ask for assistance from the nearby Police Station 4, because their new patrol car has no communication equipment yet.*APN

seized in Punta Taytay

A truck, loaded with about 3,400 board feet of mahogany and mango lumber, was intercepted in Brgy. Punta Taytay, Bacolod City, at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

Station 9 policemen were informed by Punta Taytay Brgy. Captain Rufino Alcala that he noticed the truck loaded with lumber passing by.

A team, led by Senior Police Officer 1 Arnold Vasquez, went to the area to check on the report and intercepted the truck, with plate number GJK-588, driven by Jerry Rituel of Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City.
