Enough evidence to convict
SC chief justice, Tañada says
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Deputy House Speaker Lorenzo “Erin” Tañada Saturday said he believes enough evidence has been presented at his impeachment trial to convict Chief Justice Renato Corona.

“I believe the case for impeachment will succeed,” said Tanada, a member of the House prosecution panel who was in Talisay City Saturday for the mass oathtaking of the members of the Liberal Party.

Corona should take the witness stand and explain his bank accounts to the people after his impeachment trial resumes today, he said.

Corona should also answer questions of the prosecution and the senator judges on his Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN), Tañada added.

If the defense fails to present Corona, it is like saying they want to be defeated, Tañada added.

He also said the Ombudsman has the right to investigate the SALN of the chief justice and report her findings.*CPG
