Theft charges will be filed today before the Bacolod City Prosecutor’s Office against a faith healer who allegedly took P11 million worth of jewelry from the residence of a widow in Brgy. Tangub, Bacolod City, in March this year.
The charges will be filed against Vivencia Alingalan, 55, in Brgy. Palaka in Valladolid town, Negros Occidental, Bacolod City Police Investigation and Detective Management Branch (IDMB) head, Chief Insp. Ulysses Ortiz, said yesterday.
Only P7.9 million worth of jewelry was recovered from Alingalan’s residence and at the house of her unidentified friend in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, on Saturday. The rest have yet to be recovered from persons to whom the suspect sold them, Ortiz said.
The victim, whose name the police withheld, is a retired teacher and is married to a retired American service man, more deceased, a police report showed.
Alingalan was introduced to her by a friend when she acquired a lot in Valladolid, the victim said. She sought the help of Alingalan after she heard rumors that someone was planning to perform sorcery (hiwit) on her, she added.
She invited Alingalan to her house on March 29 this year, and the suspect left the following day.
When the victim conducted an inventory, she found out that some of her jewelry were missing and she sought the the help of IDMB.
However, Alingalan said she did not steal the jewelry, and that the victim personally gave them to her as a gift. The victim accused her of stealing so she will be detained and can no longer perform sorcery on her, Alingalan added.
Ortiz said that, aside from the retired teacher, they believe Alingalan has other victims in Bacolod City and in neighboring towns and cities.
He urged those other victims to come out and file charges against her.*APN
