Politicians yesterday were asked not to use the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program to gain votes during the June 2 special election in the fifth district of Negros Occidental.
Dionela Madrona, social welfare provincial grievance officer, said they have received complaints from residents of La Castellana, Moises Padilla and Binalbagan who said they were told that their names would be removed as 4Ps recipients if they do not vote for a certain candidate.
The Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program is a human development program of the national government that provides conditional cash grants to extremely poor households to improve their health, nutrition and education particularly of children aged 0-14.
A special election is set in the fifth district of Negros Occidental for a congressman to replace Rep. Ignacio Arroyo Jr. who passed away on January 26.
Those set to run for the post are Board Member Emilio Yulo III of the Naciolnalista Party and his uncle, Binalbagan Mayor Alejandro Mirasol of the Liberal Party.
Madrona said she is appealing to politicians in the fifth district not to use the 4Ps for the election but did not name those said to be doing so.
Meanwhile, COMELEC commissioners Armando Velasco and Robert Christian Lim are arriving for a command conference at the provincial Capitol in Bacolod City tomorrow in preparation for the June 2 election.
Provincial Election Officer Jessie Suarez said internal security and updates on the latest resolutions of the COMELEC will be discussed at the conference.
He also said the registration of voters for the 2013 elections is ongoing in Negros Occidental, except for the fifth district, until October 31.
The registration of voters for the fifth district that had been suspended will resume after the special election, he added.*CPG back
