WV overall champ in special games,
DLMNHS, ETCS softbelles keep title

The softball secondary girls' team from Domingo Lacson National High School and the elementary girls' squad from ETCS, gave Western Visayas a double gold yesterday as dominated their respective championship game against separate rivals in the 2012 Palarong Pambansa at the Capitol Beachfront softball diamonds in Pangasinan.

In special games, |Region VI was declared overall champion after topping most of the events.

Western Visayas ' special athletes dominated the athletics event, placing second in swimming, topping bocce and finishing third in goalball.

At second place is Region I, Ilocos Region, after they finished first in swimming, and second overall in goalball and bocce.

Region XI or Davao Region round off the top 3, gettin a boost from their top fnish in goalball and second-place finish in athletics.

Calabarzon, Northern Mindanao, NCR, Zamboanga Peninsula , and Caraga, rounded off the top 8.

Meanwhile, it was the 18 th title for the DMLNHS softbelles as they used their experience and skills in blanking Central Visayas in the finals, 9-0.

The ETCS girls mentored by Teresita Himpolaran, kept at bay the MIMAROPA region to bring home the gold, 4-0.

Exposed to high level of games, being a perennial representative of the Asia Pacific region in the Little League Softball World Series, both the DLMNHS and ETCS teams showed their class in the championship round.

En route to the finals, the high school team beat CALABARZON, 8-3 in the semifinals. It also blew away CAR, 19-3, Davao , 5-1 and Zamboana, 10-0 in the eliminations, and stamped their class in the game against Northern Mindanao with a 2-0 win.

It was a sweet victory, on the other hand, for the ETCS girls as they absorbed defeat in the eliminations at the hands of Central Luzon, 5-7, then bounced back with a 14-0 rout of Eastern Visayas before surviving CALABARZON, 4-1, in the quarterfinals,

Meanwhile, the WVRAA high school girls' basketball team will be shooting for the gold today against the National Capital Region after dumping CARAGA in the semifinals, 77-41, yesterday.

Not as lucky was the high school boys' team, who bowed to National Capital Region by a wide margin in their semis clash. The boys', however, will have the chance to bring home a bronze medal in the battle for third place today.

In elementary footall, the semifinal game between Western Visayas and Northern Mindanao will be played today after the match was postponed yesterday due to heavy rains.*NAB
