Lipat-on polls today
BY CARLA GOMEZ

The Commission on Elections will ensure that voting residents of Barangay Lipat-on, Calatrava, will not be barred from voting today, Provincial Elections Supervisor Jessie Suarez said yesterday.

Charges will be filed against those who attempt to sabotage the outcome of the elections in the barangay again, he said.

A special election is being held in the barangay after the COMELEC had declared a failure of the October 15, 2010 polls, and directed all its officials to vacate their posts.

A failure of election was declared because the path to the polling place had been blocked and only 249 of 800 voters in the barangay were able to vote, Suarez said.

No votes were also casts for the Sangguniang Kabataan candidates.

Suarez said voting will be held at the Lipat-on barangay hall where makeshift polling areas have been set up.

The police and Army have been tapped to secure the voting today, he said.

The same candidates who ran for Barangay Lipat-on posts in October 2010 are running in the polls Saturday, Suarez said.*CPG
