Oil firms cut prices of
petroleum products

MANILA – Oil firms yesterday announced a rollback on their petroleum products effective today.

Major players Petron Corp. and Chevron Philippines (formerly Caltex) will shed P1.70 in the price per liter of premium gasoline (including unleaded), P1.60 per liter on both regular gasoline and diesel and P1.50 per liter on kerosene effective on 12:01 a.m. today.

Total Philippines, on the other hand, will implement similar price rollbacks, minus that of kerosene, but effective at 6 a.m.

UCPB offers 3rd tranche
of P1.85-billion LTNCDs

The United Coconut Planters Bank is offering its third tranche of Long-Term Negotiable Certificates of Time Deposit amounting to P1.85 billion to the public after the overwhelming response to the bank’s two previous issuances, its press release said.

UCPB Treasury Banking Group head Eulogio Catabran III said that in 2010, they offered P3 billion in LTNCDs which was oversubscribed by some P4.5 billion. Last year, they raised P3.15 billion from the planned P3 billion. He added that the high investor confidence, assured them that this latest venture would be worthwhile, he said.

The bank’s LTNCDs, called UCPB Series 3 LTNCDs, are deposit products that have higher returns and longer maturities than regular time deposits, the press release said.

wins in national contest

An agriculturist from Negros Occidental bested other candidates from provinces in the Philippines and directors of state universities in the Philippines for the Outstanding Local Government Unit Extentionist award of the Philippine Extension Worker Inc., during the 4th Agriculture, Fisheries, and Natural Resources Extension Symposium in Banga, Aklan recently.

Melba Bañares, agriculturist II of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist assigned in Kabankalan City, also received the Rice Achievers’ Award for the Agricultural Extension Workers category of Department of Agriculture in 2011.

Dina Genzola, OPA senior agriculturist said, Bañares has shared her innovative and creative strategies and expertise in the implementation of agricultural extension programs that have resulted in the production growth and farm income of farmers in Kabankalan City.
