A Negros-wide Teachers’ Training Seminar on Public Sector Unionism was held by the Alliance of Concerned Teachers at the Technology and Livelihood Training Center, Sweet City Captel, Bacolod City recently, a press release from ACT said.
The training was aimed at equipping ACT leaders with knowledge and skills on public sector unionism and union leadership. It was also part of the preparatory activities of ACT Region VI in its effort to get registration and accreditation with the Department of Labor and Employment and the Civil Service Commission,respectively, as a legitimate union to represent the teachers in the collective negotiation with the regional counterpart in the DepEd, the press release said.
The three-day training seminar was attended by 38 teacher leaders coming from the cities of Bacolod, Talisay, Silay, Cadiz, Sagay, Escalante and La Carlota and also from the towns of Valladolod, San Enrique and Murcia.
Present at the opening program were Vice Mayor of Bacolod City, Jude Thaddeus Sayson and former Councilor of Bacolod City, Wilson Gamboa Jr. who gave inspirational messages.
Solidarity messages from Bacolod City Councilors Archie Baribar and El Cid Familiaran were also read during the program, the press release said.
The training was facilitated by France Castro, secretary general of ACT Philippines and Cristina Manalo, member of the National Council of ACT, the press release added.*
