6 scholars of DOST NegOr
to take up geology course

Six of the 22 scholars of the Department of Science and Technology in Negros Oriental will take up the course leading to BS Geology at the Negros Oriental State University when school year opens next month, a press release from the agency said.

Four other scholars will take up BS Mechanical Engineering; three each for BS Information Technology and BS Chemistry; two for BS Geodetic Engineering; and one each for BS Electrical Engineering, BS Education-Physics Teaching, BS Computer Science and BS Computer Engineering, Gilbert Arbon, DOST provincial director, said in the press release.

The DOST-Science Education Institute has been promoting enrolment courses like BS Physics, Geology, and Mining Engineering. Scholars who choose any of the courses will receive a subsidy of P5,000 monthly allowance or P1,000 higher than those who opt for other courses, it added.

Scholars may study in a state university or college, or in a private academic institution if the courses are offered by a schools given the center of excellence or center of development status, the press release also said.

There are 32 DOST scholars now undergoing a 20-day summer orientation and enrichment program at NORSU. Arbon also said that aside from the scholars from Negros Oriental, there are six from Siquijor, two from Surigao del Norte, and two from Region 6, the press release added.*
