eyes crown tonight

After dumping Batch 2003/2004 Martha, 105-86, in Game 1, the BBC/Amazing ’09 squad hopes to end the best-of-three finals tonight the two teams clash once again for the title in the 4th University of St. La Salle /LNA7 Sports Foundation Basketball Tournament at the West Negros University Gym.

Friday night’s victory for BBC was anchored by Sammy Belangel, who scored 17 points, while Marco Avecilla tallied 16, six of them in the fourth quarter.

After trading baskets with Martha in the first half to settle for a three-point lead at halftime, 49-47, BBC pulled away in the third quarter as the squad registered a 23-14 run.

Amit Teruel and Bard Hojilla led the third quarter surge for BBC as Teruel scored two triples and finished the quarter with eight points, while Hojilla hit six points.

It was a close game in the first half as Nico Lopingco and Timothy Dumancas combined for 16 points, while Martha responded with big hits from August Palmares and Edward Castellano.

In the second quarter, Belangel, Avecilla and Tony Agustin thwarted Martha’s efforts to wrest the lead as they led BBC’s offense with 11, 10, and 7 points output, while Luigi Hererra connected with three triples, Michael Chan with a pair of treys, and also a three-pointer from Crister Isulat.

Lopingco finished with 12 points for BBC while Agustin and Dumancas scored 10 points each, Fifi Sayson delivered nine points, while teruel tallied eight points.*
