MANILA - Eleven persons died while 10 others were injured seriously when a passenger jeepney plunged into a 150-meter deep ravine in Sitio Am-ancho, Bontoc Ili, Bontoc, Mountain Province on Sunday afternoon.
A report reaching the Philippine National Police headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City from the Cordillera Police Regional Office indicated that the accident took place at around 2:30 p.m.
The report said that the passenger jeepney (ACZ-135), driven by Antonio Dulawan, 36, was negotiating a steep portion of the road in the vicinity when its wheels slipped off and the vehicle fell into a nearby cliff.
Chief Supt. Benjamin B. Magalong, Cordillera Police Regional Office head, identified the dead as Sherleene Benis, Maryanne Camfoli, Chuwarey Arokod, Jonalyn Sallongen, Teresa Aronchay, Chagon Chamkas, Adelene Domakyon, Helen Lachika, Chanda Chamkas, Delia Sumilao, and Melvin Aronchay.
Hurt in the same accident and now confined at the Bontoc General Hospital were Jessica Sumilao, 10; Myrna Lapa-an, 23; Isagani Falisong, 13; Zenia Maskay, 14; Luisa Waking, 34; Rachel Lapa-an, 21; Jacquline Banganan, 48; Abraham Mang-osan; Jane Falisong, 33; and Stevensol Paraan.
Magalong said the vehicle owner, identified as Ruben Piska, and the driver Dulawan are now in the custody of the local police and undergoing investigation. *PNA
