Close congressional fight
in 5th district -- Marañon

BY CARLA GOMEZ

The battle for congressman of the fifth district of Negros Occidental is a very close fight between Binalbagan Mayor Alejandro Mirasol Jr. and Board Member Emilio Yulo III, Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. said yesterday.

“But our survey shows Bebot leading,” said the governor, who heads the United Negros Alliance that has thrown is support behind Mirasol.

Another survey allegedly by the Inter School Management Data group reportedly shows Yulo ahead.

The exact survey will be on June 2 when the actual election is held, the governor said.

Meanwhile, Mirasol and Yulo will have to campaign very hard to win, he added.

The filing of certificates of candidacy for the candidates for congressman of the fifth district began yesterday and ends tomorrow.

Nobody filed a CoC yesterday, and Yulo of the Nacionalista Party and Mirasol of the Liberal Party are expected to file their CoC’s tomorrow.

The June 2 special election is being held following the death of Rep. Ignacio Arroyo Jr. on January 26.*CPG
