Scrap iron collector killed

Relatives of his neighbor ganged up on a scrap iron collector, and fatally stabbed him, at about 7:30 a.m. yesterday in Brgy. Taculing, Bacolod City.

Police Officer 1 Arnel Deles, case investigator, identified the victim as Ebenzer Las Prija, 53, of Purok Masagana Lupa in Brgy. Taculing, who sustained multiple stab wounds, and died on the spot.

The suspects, identified as Jessie Mangubat, 31, Nico Mangubat, 35 and a certain “Boyet” Arceño, 42, all of Brgy. 30, Bacolod, surrendered at about 4 p.m. to Police Station 6, the police said.

Investigation showed that Las Prija and a certain “Ariel”, who was reportedly armed with an improvised shot gun, summoned the suspects to the house of their relative, whose name was not disclosed.

Deles said that before the arrival of the suspects, “Ariel” fired an indiscriminate shot and fled, while Las Prija, who was left behind, was attacked by the group.

Deles told the DAILY STAR that a personal grudge is being eyed in the killing as Las Prija and the suspects had a quarrel Monday night but were pacified.

Homicide charges will be filed against the suspects, he added.*APN

2 nabbed for
stealing gasoline

Two men were apprehended by Station 2 policemen in a follow-up operation, for allegedly stealing gasoline from the stockroom of a former barangay captain in Brgy.2, Bacolod City, at about 7 a.m. yesterday.

Senior Insp. Robert Dejucos, Station 2 chief, identified the suspects as Narlito de la Vente, “alias Boknoy”, 26, of Purok Mahimulaton in Brgy. Banago; and Clifchard de la Vente, 18, of Purok Lubi, Brgy. 3, both of Bacolod. The police did not say if the two are related.

Their companion, who evaded arrest, was identified as Michael Tayo, “alias Nonoy”, 23, also of Purok Mahimulaton, Dejucos said.

Sebastian Mendoza, 49, of Purok Kagaycay in Brgy. 2 told the police that he discovered the 11 plastic containers of gasoline for his motorboats gone from his stockroom at about 6 a.m.

Investigation showed that Narlito destroyed the bamboo fence and the galvanized sheet at the stockroom and took the containers valued at P10,340.

Seven of the plastic containers were recovered from an “alias Alexis”, a gasoline vendor, while the rest were seized from a certain “Joemon Benjamin” of Purok Mahimulaton, police records show.

The trisikad, owned by Teddy Espadera that was allegedly used to transport the stolen items, was also recovered, the police said.

The De La Ventes are now detained at Police Station 2 and charges are being readied against them.*APN
