PNoy appoints 2 new
judges for Dumaguete

MANILA – President Benigno Aquino III has appointed new judges to lower courts in various cities and towns in the country, with two for Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental.

Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda, in a press briefing in Malacañang yesterday, said the new appointees are Judge Joseph Elmaco for the Regional Trial Court Branch 36, and Judge Cenon Voltaire Repollo, to the Regional Trial Court Branch 38, both in Dumaguete.

Elmaco obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree from the Siliman University in 1982, and was admitted to the Bar in 1984. He served as Second Municipal Circuit Trial Court judge in Bindoyoayungon-Manjuyod, also in Negros Oriental, since 2006.

The fare for motorcabs for hire in Dumaguete City was rolled back to P8.30 from the P9 per head within the city limits.

Vice Mayor Alan Gel Cordova said that under the automatic adjustment scheme of fare rates in Dumaguete, a corresponding increase or decrease is implemented vis-à-vis existing fuel prices.

The fare rate was reduced because premium gasoline is currently priced below P60 per liter, he added.

Jail warden Nick Noble said yesterday the use of liquefied petroleum gas at the Negros Oriental Detention and Rehabilitation Center will entail additional costs for the provincial government.

Noble issued the statement after Gov. Roel Degamo instructed the General Services Office to study the possibility of using LPG as fuel, instead of making prisoners gather firewood for use by the Center.

Degamo said this will also address the risk of a mass jailbreak.
