IN DUMAGUETE
RTC 44 to hear petition vs.
Helmet law June 5

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Regional Trial Court Branch 44 in Negros Oriental has scheduled a hearing on the petition for declaratory relief against the controversial Republic Act 10054 or the National Helmet Law, on June 5.

Vice Mayor Alan Gel Cordova, one of the petitioners, said that while a judicial approach is undertaken, parallel moves are ongoing to bring the signature campaign against RA 10054 down to the barangay level.

The petitioners are raising constitutional grounds on equal protection and the use of property and valid classifications, citing the generalities of some provisions, like the use of helmets by drivers of vehicles passing through private roads and compounds, Cordova added.

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

A bridal roadshow dubbed “Kasalang Pilipino” is ongoing at Robinsons Place in Dumaguete City until Sunday.

With the theme “Beautiful Creations (Maanyag na Mugna)”, 36 bridal services will be showcased, aimed at introducing these businesses to the public, especially since weddings are becoming a big deal to everyone, Glynda Descuatan, Dumaguete leg organizer, said.

She added that various creations of designers, florists, stylists, makeup artists, caterers, photography and video shops, cakes and souvenir makers, have been gathered in one location to give would-be couples and the public the chance to learn and be informed on how to plan a wedding.

PWD concert set

A group of musicians with physical disabilities from Quezon City called “Rondalla on Wheels” will perform in Dumaguete City from May 25 to June 2, a press release from organizers said.

Rolando Villamero Jr., coordinator of the Great Physician Rehabilitation, said the week-long concert will showcase the talents of persons with disabilities.

Analou Suan, GPRehab executive director, said “We take pride in inviting ROW to Dumaguete City to raise the awareness of the community about the capabilities of PWDs, and to generate funds for GPRehab’s project CHILD or Caring Hands to Inspire and Link with Differently-Abled Children”.
