Sacked hospital employees
mourning; to continue fight

Today is the Day of Mourning for the 16 members of the Bacolod Our Lady of Mercy Specialty Hospital employees’ union who were terminated last May 11, 2012 after the decision of 7th Division of the National Labor Relations Commission of Cebu City that affirmed their termination due to redundancy valid, Roberto Villaram, union president, said yesterday.

At a press conference at the Aglipayan Church in Bacolod City, Villaram said “We thought that we have already won the battle against illegal termination and redundancy but here we are again caught in the midst of fighting for our labor rights and for the needs of our families.”

The NLRC Cebu decision signed by its presiding commissioner Violeta Bantug and concurred in by Commissioner Julie Rendoque on December 29, 2011 reversed the order of Labor Arbiter Henry Tañoso of the NLRC Bacolod that affirmed the illegal termination claim of the employees.

target realistic: DAR

The 32,000 hectares target for land coverage for 2012 under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program Extension with Reforms for Negros Occidental is realistic and the agency only needs the right persons to do the job, Elmo Bañares, DAR regional director for Negros Occidental, said yesterday.

Bañares said they have less than 300 personnel and 40 other persons deployed in Negros from Iloilo DAR office to work on the land acquisition and distribution processes, and that is still too few for the task, especially for research and survey.

The office will also subcontract the research work and survey to accelerate the process and will hire 150 to 200 people for the job, he said.

Kawasaki drives
for road safety

Kawasaki motors Philippines, one of the leading motorcycle manufacturers in the world, is bent on promoting road safety not only of riders but also of other motorists to avoid accidents, its national marketing manager Arnel Juco, said Sunday.

Juco, who was in Bacolod City Sunday for the Roadgasmic bikers Party at the Dugout Club, said Kawasaki is coordinating with motorcycle riding clubs in the country to hold road safety seminars for motorcycle enthusiasts.

He said that there are many misconceptions about motorcycles which need to be corrected, one of which is that the motorcycle is not only for recreation purposes but also a vehicle for easy transport.
