The EDSA People Power Commission is in Negros Oriental is holding a series of activities to promote love of country, especially in flood and earthquake-hit areas of the province.
Singer-actor Ogie Alcasid, one of its commissioners, yesterday joined a read-along activity at the Batinguel Elementary School in Dumaguete City, with children of flood-hit areas, and will join a similar activity today at the Guihulngan City Central School with children of earthquake-hit areas.
He also led a group of entertainers at a concert dubbed "Tatak EDSA" at the Macias Sports Complex in Dumaguete last night, while another concert is set at the Guihulngan City Gym today.
Alcasid said they want to spread a little joy to residents of typhoon and earthquake-hit areas, along with promoting love of country and nationalism.
Dumaguete Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria said it is very important to promote love of country and he was happy that the commission was in Dumaguete.
It is more of a duty rather than a responsibility to promote love of country and I hope more people join us in spreading the good news, Sagarbarria added.
EDSA People Power Commissioner Millie Kilayko, who led the organization of the Negros Oriental activities, said that, among the activities also held yesterday were the EDSA People Power volunteers assembly, and singing, songwriting and dancing workshops at Silliman University in Dumaguete City.
Today, aside from a read-a-long and concert, the Commission will join a Brigada Eskwela activity at the Martilino Elementary School in La Libertad town and a tree-planting activity in Ayungon town.
Other EDSA People Power commissioners also in Negros Oriental aside from Kilayko and Alcasid are Emily Abrera and Cesar Sarino.*CPG
