Man, 57, shot dead in Tanjay

A resident of Tanjay City in Negros Oriental was shot dead by two unidentified suspects on board a motorcycle in Sitio Bomba, Barangay Sta. Cruz Nuevo, Tanjay, at around 2 p.m. Monday.

Police identified the victim as Sansen Benlo, 57, married, and a resident of Poblacion 7 in the city, who sustained gunshot wounds in his face and body. He was declared dead on arrival at the Tanjay Urgent Clinic.

The police are still investigating the motive for the shooting, and determining the identities of the suspects.

Meanwhile, intelligence operatives of the Tanjay police, arrested Marconi Areglado, of legal age, married, and a resident of Sitio Tunggo, Barangay Sta. Cruz Viejo, Tanjay, while he was collecting bet money for the “swertres”, an illegal numbers game.

Seized from Areglado were one paper stub with number combinations, a ballpen and bet money, the police said.

Sr. Supt. Edward Carranza, Negros Oriental provincial police director, has announced that the PNP will continue without let-up its anti-illegal gambling operations in the province.*JFP
