The Philippine National Bank, in partnership with Silliman University, launched a project called “PNB tuition fee loan program”, at the university yesterday, a press release from the school said.
Eligible to avail of the tuition loan program, that has a P10 million funding, are bonafide student of Silliman, whose parents are gainfully employed or have sufficient income to cover the monthly amortizations at one percent interest, Joven Hernandez, PNB retail banking group, said.
SU president, Ben Malayang III, said the university seeks to provide the best possible education within the means of the institution.
The usual problem of students who want to avail of good education is availability of funds to defray the high cost of education, and this prompt Silliman to ask PNP if it can bridge the gap between income and expenses, Malayang added.
He added the tuition loan is just one program of the university to help students get a good education. SU has allotted more than P14 million in scholarships to students who want to work their way through college, he added.*JG
