57 gun owners in Bacolod
renew license, BCPO says

Fifty-seven firearm owners in Bacolod City renewed their gun licenses in the first quarter of 2012, records of the City Police Firearms Explosives and Guards Section showed yesterday.

Of the number, 31 were high-powered firearms, Police Officer 3 Jacob Montoya of FESSAGS, said.

Montoya said 24 gun holders renewed their licenses in January, 23 in February, and 10 in March. He said some gun stores and clubs helped firearm owners in renewing the licenses in Camp Crame.

There are 22,462 licensed firearms with Negrenses, but 10,823 of these have expired licenses, the Police Regional Office 6 said.

In Bacolod City alone, there are 11,052 individuals with gun licenses, 635 of them given authority by the Philippine National Police to carry guns outside their residences.

This is on top of an estimated 6,000 loose firearms in possession of other individuals in Negros Occidental.

PNP spokesman Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz had earlier said that gun holders with licenses that have expired more than a year ago, will be the targets of their campaign, as the amnesty period ended in 2010.*APN

Cops recover 2
homemade guns

Silay City policemen recovered a homemade .38 caliber revolver without serial number, and an improvised shotgun or “sulpak” beside the road in Sitio Dacutan Dacu Road, Brgy Mambulac, at about 12:15 a.m. yesterday.

Senior Police Officer 1 Rayjay Rebadomia, Police Officers 2 Reynaldo Bernil Jr. and Ian Libo-on were conducting a patrol operation near a benefit dance with the barangay tanods, led by Larry Jaranilla, when they spotted the guns.

The team also seized two ammunition for a .38 caliber revolver, and two others for a 12-gauge shotgun, police records show.

The recovered items will be endorsed to the Firearm Explosives Security and Guards Section of Silay City police.*APN

‘Jai alai’ operators,
fishermen nabbed3

Two alleged jai alai operators were apprehended by Station 4 policemen in Barangays Montevista and Villamonte, in Bacolod, Tuesday, while two fishermen were taken into custody by Station 8 operatives after they were caught illegally fishing at the shorelines of Brgy. Tangub, on the same day.

Ricardo Busado, 53, and Ruben Plunas, 51, both of Purok Sulom 2 in Brgy. Villamonte, were nabbed by a team led by Insp. Lanel Lanado, Station 4 deputy chief.

Busado was arrested at about 6:30 p.m. at Bangga Avocado in Brgy. Montevista while collecting bets for jai alai. Seized from him were a ball pen, several tipsters with the codename “Target,” and P150 in cash.

An hour later, Plunas was nabbed in Purok Lanzones, Brgy. Villamonte, also while collecting bets for jai alai. A tipster with the codename “Target”, a ballpen and P80 in cash were also recovered from him, Lanado said.

Meanwhile, Julius Fuentes, 46, and Joenel Bunda 41, both of Purok Villa Mercedes, Tangub, were apprehended for using illegal fishing gear, by members of Task Force Bantay Dagat, at about 6 a.m. at the shorelines of the purok.

Bantay Dagat members, led by Police Officer 3 Elvies Juarez, recovered several fine nets and prohibited fishing gear from the fishermen who were not detained, the police added.*APN
