Bacolod Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson yesterday said most of the gasoline stations they have inspected in Bacolod City have not completed the requirements for their business permits.

Although they have paid the fees, their business permits have not been released since most of them have not yet secured the required Environmental Compliance Certificate, he said.

He added that the owners claim that based on their contracts, it is not the operators who should secure an ECC but the gasoline company operating the stations.

Sayson said they inspected seven gasoline stations Friday to check on the accuracy of the calibration of their fuel pumps, and out of the seven, one gas station had fuel pumps that were not properly calibrated.

He said they will continue inspecting gasoline stations so, at least, motorists are assured that they are getting their money’s worth.

During the inspections they conducted, only two gas pumps were found to have under-delivered, although the difference was not very significant, Sayson said.

They have inspected almost 25 gasoline stations in Bacolod with a total of 80 fuel pumps, he said, and there are about 130 gas stations in the city. Most of them are complying with the directive of the Department of Energy, he added.

Sayson said they have only conducted three inspections and if they had an extra calibration bracket from the DOE, they would have covered about 50 percent of the total gas stations by now.

He said the inspection is the work of the City Treasurer but he has been appointed by Mayor Evelio Leonardia to coordinate with the different departments to implement the inspection.

If there are violations committed, it is the City Treasurer who will issue the corresponding notices and penalties to the owners of the gasoline stations, Sayson said. They are waiting for the report of the City Treasurer on the matter, he added.*CGS
