The police yesterday filed two counts of parricide against a 24-year-old mother, who confessed to having killed her two minor children in Hinigaran, Negros Occidental before the Provincial Prosecutor’s of Negros Occidental.
The respondent was identified as Mira Lacson, who is now detained at the Hinigaran Police Jail.
Police Officer 3 Ma. Victorina Oychocde, chief of the Hinigaran police Women’s and Children Complaint Desk chief, said Lacson claimed to have drowned the two children, both girls, aged 1 and 3 years old, in a canal on May 21 in Sitio Da-at, Brgy. Calapi, Hinigaran.
Oychocde, however, said that, based on the result of the autopsy conducted by Dr. Edgar Acosta of the Hinigaran Municipal Health Office, the two children died of suffocation, bolstering suspicions that they may have been strangled to death.
Before the incident, Lacson claimed, she was always berated by her mother for being a happy-go-lucky person, and was scolded for neglecting her two children, police investigations show.
The victims reportedly had different fathers.
Lacson was arrested by the police, a day after the bodies of her two children were found at a sugarcane field in the barangay.
The mother of the suspect, accompanied the Hinigaran police, in filing of the charges against her daughter at the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office. * GPB back
