40 teachers finish
English proficiency training

Forty elementary public school teachers from Sagay City finished yesterday their English language proficiency training at the Negros Occidental Language and Information Technology Center in Bacolod City, a press release from the Capitol said.

The 100-hour training was geared towards the improvement of the English communication skills of teachers, as well as in reading, writing, speaking and listening in preparation for the K+12 program.

Sangguniang Panlalawigan Board Member Miller Serondo, guest speaker at the closing rites, emphasized the role of teachers in developing the communication skills of students, particularly in English, that is now a global requirement for workers, the press release also said.

The training is a very good jumpstart towards enhancing the communication skills of elementary students at an early age, Serondo added. The event was attended by John Siena of DepEd Sagay, and Yvonne Gustilo of the Economic Enterprise Development Department of the provincial government, the press release added.*

Residents near
GLES hold reunion

Former and present residents living along the river bank near the Gil Lopez Elementary School in Barangay Fabrica, Sagay City, Negros Occidental, held their first reunion recently.

Most of the original residents now living in other parts of the country and abroad gathered at GLES for the two-day reunion, Rhoda Tepura Pan said.

The Delarmente, Reyes, Lacuesta, Geganto, Jover, Tamayo, Sayo, Juares, Arcona and Tepura families participated in the reunion that was full of recollections, food and laughter, Pan said.

Pan said they are planning to use donations collected during the reunion to put up solar street lights where their residences are, and for a backdoor gate and concrete fence around GLES.

New Balance run to
be held June 3

Lots of prizes and freebies await participants in the New Balance Run on June 3 at the Provincial Capital Lagoon in Bacolod City, a press release from organizers said.

The top three winners of the 10K will received P7,500, P5,000 and P2,500 in cash prizes, respectively, while the top three for 5K will get P5,000, P2,500 and P1,500, respectively, plus various items for winners in each category, the press release also said.

Registered runners will also get 20 percent off on all regular-priced New Balance items, by presenting their race bib in any New Balance, Planet Sports and The Athlete’s Foot outlets nationwide until November 31.

Those interested may register at Planet Sports and The Athlete’s Foot at Robinsons Place, the New Government Center, or Run Club Bacolod, with a Registration fee is P400 for 10K, and P350 for 5K. Distribution of race packs will be from today until June 1 at Planet Sports, the press release said.
