More public schools in Bacolod City inspected by the Bureau of Fire Protection this week were found with violations, deputy fire marshal, Insp. Publio Ploteña, said yesterday.
Like they had noted in 24 public schools they had earlier inspected last week, Ploteña said some of the schools have huge arches at their main gates that will make it difficult for fire trucks and ambulances to get inside their campuses in cases of emergency.
He said some schools they checked this week have open wires that are hazardous to both students and teachers, while most have corroded electrical connections.
Ploteña also said they have obstructions in the pathway leading to the fire exits that will prevent easy escape of the students and teachers in case of fire incidents.
The BFP already issued notices of violations to the principals of the schools they have inspected and will also furnish the Department of Education copies of the results of their inspections.
Ploteña said BFP is also scheduled to inspect boarding houses and eateries near the schools today to ensure their safety.
Meanwhile, Traffic Management Unit head, Chief Insp. Luisito Acebuche, said their traffic plans for the opening of classes next week are already in place.
Acebuche said one-way traffic schemes will be implemented at La Salle Avenue and at Libertad Street in front of Taytung high school. He said jeepneys plying Libertad Street are not allowed to enter the are anymore as only private vehicles can enter the area will also be rerouted to Mabini Street.
Vehicles will also not be allowed to park at Galo Street in front of the La Consolacion College-main from 7 a.m. until noon. Those whose children are studying at LCC may park their vehicles at San Juan Street.
Motorcycle policemen and traffic enforcers will be deployed in the schools when classes open next week.*APN back
