The Department of Agrarian Reform in Negros Occidental is providing technical-vocational scholarships to 30 students of agrarian reform beneficiaries in districts IV, V, and VI to help farmers send their children to school.
Ronald Gareza, agrarian reform program officer for support services, said yesterday that the scholarships will accommodate applicants from southern Negros as they have separate programs with DAR-North and it is in partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.
Courses offered for district IV applicants are commercial cooking, computer hardware servicing, dressmaking, tailoring, and massage therapy, while training courses offered for district V applicants are automotive servicing, commercial cooking, consumer electronics servicing, food and beverage services, and shielded metal arc welding, he said.
Applicants for district VI can choose automotive servicing, commercial cooking, consumer electronics servicing, food and beverage services, shielded metal arc welding, dressmaking, or electrical installation and maintenance, Gareza added.
The participating institutions are University of St. La Salle-Bacolod, VMA Global College, Lasaltech-La Carlota, Victory Business College, Asian Business Institute of e-Technology, Fortress College, Binalbagan Catholic College, Quality Education and Skills Training, and Kabankalan Catholic College.
Gareza said DAR-South wants to help its ARBs through the scholarship that will give students the skills and knowledge that they can use in servicing their communities.
He also encouraged students to submit their application this week so that DAR and TESDA can interview and evaluate them before the training course starts. *LTG
